Apologies for the lack of updates! I got hit with the flu this week and it made everything slow down for a few days. I'm still in recovery, but doing much better. I missed another week of stitch school while sick, but I will get it back going again this week. I have been working away on the squirrel project in the meantime. I meant to do a better series of progress updates for this project, but the sickness just made it hard to do. Anyways, here is at least one update: I stitched the squirrel!
It's about 2 inches big. Everything else on the project is ready, so I will cut this little guy out and sew him on tomorrow. Then stitch a nice fluffy tail. I have made acorns, leaves, berries, and a beetle these past days while I've been ill. Pictures of the parts will be coming soon!
I have spent some time pondering what to do with my blog, (I haven't been a very engaged blogger for quite awhile now - always thinking to write more, but never quite making it much of a priority to sit down). So it seemed timely to run across a little reader survey on Sew in Love about what readers want in a good needlework blog. (It's definitely worth a read if you have been wondering this too.) I read the responses and Elizabeth's summary. It's very informative and gave me a lot to consider. I'm going to try to do a better job documenting my projects and posting good photos, not just of the final result but of the steps and how I work when I am doing a project. The stitch schools and that sort of thing will continue as time allows, even if I do get a bit discouraged by the lack of feedback on them. In the end, I just have to accept that I do them for myself (they've already helped me in many ways) and that most of the readers who pass by here just aren't interested enough to take the time to let me know they are appreciated.

Emily I hope you get better quickly! My daughter has had tonsillitis for three days! Bad stuff!
ReplyDeleteYour squirrel is cute! Love the colors on his back!
This morning, there was a squirrel out front eating acorns dropped from our tree! He would eat half, then bury the other half! Then went on to the next acorn! So interesting to watch! I should name him Flossy after your squirrel!
I'm off to have a look at that survey, I'm a bit "in between" with my blog at the moment too.
ReplyDeleteGet well soon!
Just a quick note, to thank you for the time you put into your blog. I lurk more than comment, and I appreciate your efforts! ~Ann
ReplyDeleteI am one of your readers who should really make more of an effort to chime in every now and then! I love the stitch school posts and have learned so much from them. Thank you for all your hard work in putting them together. I've also enjoyed seeing the beautiful work you have done. So inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI love the stitch schools posts. I dream of doing them all and making a quilt sampler or something out of them.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your work. I love the inspiration.
I, too, love the stitch school posts. One of my vacation goals is to sit down and try every one I've seen in a hodge podge mess of embroidery that's just for me.
ReplyDeleteOh I appreciate everything! I am really enjoying the stumpwork and would love to see more in progress. Lately blogger has made it very difficult to post comments
ReplyDeleteOh no, now I feel terrible. I read your blog but I'm terrible at commenting sometimes. I also forget that even if you've had a few comments on a post, that you'd appreciate a few more and so when I see that others have commented, I don't bother. Bad Wendy. I'm sorry, I'll comment more in future, just don't go! I love your work, I think it's amazing.
ReplyDeleteI have just found your blog and love your stumpwork. I have not tried it myself but i do intend to. I will be a follower I can assure you. I love your beatle also...
